Animal Care at Peaceful Paddocks

Our Animal Care Experiences

At Peaceful Paddocks, animal care is at the heart of everything we do. With years of experience working closely with a variety of animals, we understand the importance of providing compassionate, attentive, and expert care to ensure their well-being. We believe in empowering children and young people with practical skills, knowledge, and a deep understanding of animal welfare.

Our Approach to Animal Care

At Peaceful Paddocks, we are proud to provide experiences that highlight the trust and bond between humans and animals, reinforcing a culture of respect, kindness, and care. We prioritise the physical and emotional health of all animals in our care. Our team is trained in the latest animal welfare techniques, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment tailored to meet the specific needs of each species. From routine health checks to specialised feeding and grooming, every aspect of care is handled with meticulous attention.

Commitment to Welfare

The Five Freedoms ensure that we meet the mental and physical needs of animals in our care:

  1. Freedom from hunger and thirst by ready access to fresh water and diet to maintain health and vigour. This must be specific to the animal.

  2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

  3. Freedom from pain, injury, or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

  4. Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities, and company of the animal's own kind.

  5. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

Range of Animals

Our animal care expertise extends across a diverse range of animals, including:

  • Donkeys and ponies

  • Sheep and goats

  • Poultry

  • Small mammals

Each group has unique requirements, and we adapt our care practices accordingly to promote their natural behaviours and contentment.

Educational Experiences

We believe that hands-on learning is an invaluable part of animal care. By inviting young people to engage in daily care routines such as grooming, feeding, and habitat maintenance, we foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of animal welfare and responsibility.

Therapeutic animal care involves the use of animals as a form of support and healing in various health and well-being contexts, to assist individuals with physical, emotional, psychological, or cognitive challenges.

These sessions can improve motor skills, reduce anxiety, promote social interaction, and enhance mood especially beneficial for individuals with disabilities or trauma.

Therapeutic care often emphasises the human-animal bond, recognising the calming effect animals can have on people.

For learners over 13 we offer an ASDAN short course in Animal Care
